Treatment

Led by our experienced and compassionate team of therapists, our offense-specific treatment for adult men and women is strength oriented and evidence based.

Treatment exceeds the SOMB Standards by incorporating the Good Lives Model and Self Regulation Model as foundational modalities. Treatment is primarily conducted within a group setting with monthly individual sessions. Our processes are guided by proprietary manuals that keeps treatment on track and progressing. The manuals serve as starting points to self-discovery. Our goal is that when a person completes treatment, he or she has become a better person. Indeed, many clients feel a transformational process occurring within themselves as they engage treatment and therapy.

FETS offers two main treatment tracts within the program with multiple branches. The standard tract consists of three phases. The low risk tract consists of two phases. Additionally, Life College modules are important elements of treatment and are attended in parallel to the regular tracts. Clients select their modules from a list of 24 topics.

Although treatment is rooted in the Cognitive Behavioral modality, each therapist utilizes their own unique talents, wisdom, and training. Within FETS, we offer Art Therapy, EMDR, Transpersonal Psychology, and Somatic Therapy.

We offer treatment in Spanish for those clients who prefer to engage treatment in Spanish as their primary language.

Appeals Group

FETS offers services to clients who are appealing their case. Clients will need to verify that their case is under appeal and that no Use Agreement is in effect. The Appeal Group is a separate group containing other clients who are appealing their case. Clients will not be required to discuss their case nor asked about their case. All other aspects of the SOMB treatment standards will be followed.

Revocation Group

FETS offers services to clients who are currently under revocation for their probation or parole. This group is uniquely designed to provide treatment contact for those clients who have been terminated from their sex offense treatment provider but are still free in public and on supervision. This group meets weekly. The focus on the group is the revocation and maintaining community safety. Client participation is terminated upon resolution of the revocation. If probation/ parole is reinstated, the client may return to their original treatment provider or transfer into a FETS treatment group. If the client transfers into a FETS treatment group, the client will be given credit for all their previous progress and accomplishments.

Evaluations

FETS offers psychosexual evaluations per SOMB standards, including presentence evaluations and pre-plea evaluations.

We conduct evaluations at any of our five offices or, if a client is incarcerated, we can travel to the jail.

We provide evaluation services for governmental entities such as State Probation, Federal Probation, Community Corrections, the Department of Human Services, as well as the Public Defender’s office. We also conduct evaluations for private attorneys and direct appointments from a Judicial Officer.

Psychosexual Evaluations do not determine guilt or innocence but are used to assess risk for future sexual abusive behavior and to identify beneficial resources.

FETS offers Spanish speaking evaluations. For these evaluations, the clinical interview is conducted in Spanish and the testing materials are in Spanish.

Consulting

The FETS team is able to provide best practices and case reviews for meeting SOMB standards.

We have provided treatment consulting to attorneys, colleagues, supervising officers, judicial officers, and private parties. We’ve offered expert testimony in judicial districts across the State of Colorado.

Dr. Reser is also a Child and Family Investigator. He offers a unique background of working with divorcing families as well as a sex offender treatment and evaluation expert. His experience in these two fields is invaluable when there is an allegation of sexual abuse within a family experiencing divorce.

Supervision and Internships

FETS is committed to developing qualified and quality providers. To this end, FETS offers supervision to therapists aspiring to work with this population.

Our agency is an internship site offering nine-month to year-long internships. Our team of therapists look forward to working with new interns to help interns experience what it is like to be a therapist and to discover the many nuances of working with probation, parole, and the legal system.

A message to interested interns: this work is not to be taken lightly. This is an advanced internship placement. Many of our clients have multiple clinical diagnoses to include clinical syndromes, personality disorders, substance abuse issues, past trauma, sexual dysfunction, intimacy deficits, social awkwardness, and lack of empathy, to name common issues. These are in addition to their legal issues. Before applying for internship, look inward to your ability to set aside judgment and replace with compassion. If you have a history of personal victimization and trauma, consider if you will be able to maintain authentic presence. If you are up to the challenge, we welcome you to contact Dr. Reser at gary.reser@fets.us to start the application process.
